Before Purchase: When To Purchase and Determining The Cost

The Trip Care Complete Plan offers a choice of three Options to meet your needs and budget: Elite, Plus, and Basic. Each option includes Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Trip Delay, Medical Expense, Emergency Evacuation, and Baggage Loss/Delay coverage. Each option includes different features, benefits, and coverage limits with additional optional coverages available.

Enroll as soon as you have booked your trip for maximum benefits. Some plans feature a time-sensitive benefits, including:
  • Cancel for Any Reason (optional upgrade)
  • Pre-Existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver (included on Basic, Plus and Elite)
  • Coverage for Financial Default
To ensure coverage for these time sensitive benefits, you must purchase the plan within 14 days of your initial trip deposit/payment, insure the full cost of all non-refundable prepaid trip arrangements, insure the full cost of any subsequently booked trip arrangements within 14 days of payment/confirmation for those additional arrangements and be able to travel at the time you purchase coverage.

If your airfare is subject to a cancellation penalty or restriction (most are), we recommend that you insure it. When you select your plan option, you can choose whether you want to insure your airfare or not. If you indicate that you want to insure your airfare by checking the "Air" checkbox on the Enrollment Form, you must include 100% of your airfare cost in the Trip Cost amount used to calculate your payment for this plan. To be eligible for early purchase benefits including Cancel For Any Reason, you must insure 100% of all non-refundable pre-paid trip costs, including airfare.
No, frequent flyer miles cannot be insured. However, if your trip in cancelled or interrupted for a covered reason listed in the Policy,we will reimburse you for the penalty charge or change fee the airline charges you to change your airline ticket dates.
Trip Care Complete covers Traveling Companions. A "Traveling Companion" is any person(s) booked to accompany you on your covered trip. “Traveling Companion” does not include a group or tour leader unless You are sharing room accommodations with the group or tour leader.

If your Traveling Companion, as defined, cancels his or her Trip for a reason covered by the Trip Care Complete option you choose, you are protected in two ways:
  • (a) If you decide to take your Trip, the plan will cover any single occupancy upgrade charges which you might incur; or
  • (b) If you decide not to take your Trip, your cancellation penalties will be covered by the plan.

Yes, you may insure the days you are traveling on your own. Include the prepaid expenses for this part of your Trip in the Trip Cost you list on your Enrollment Form. Also, be sure to include these dates when you enter your departure and return dates.
Yes, you may buy the insurance for any of your trips. We do not require that you travel with an organized tour to buy this plan.

Yes, if you purchase within 14 days of your initial trip deposit/payment, insure 100% of your trip cost, the booking for the Covered Trip must be the first and only booking for this travel period and destination, and you are not disabled at the time you pay the premium, the Pre-Existing Conditions exclusion is waived. For a complete explanation of the Pre-Existing Conditions waiver, please review the Description of Coverage.
No. The Pre-Existing Conditions Waiver only applies to Trip Care Complete, and only if you enroll within 14 days of your initial trip deposit/payment, insure 100% of your trip cost, the booking for the Covered Trip must be the first and only booking for this travel period and destination, and you are not disabled at the time you pay the premium. Yes, you really can cancel for any reason not already covered by the Trip Care Complete plans, provided you purchase this optional coverage, have enrolled within 14 days of your initial deposit/payment date, have covered 100% of your trip cost, and cancel at least two (2) days prior to your trip's scheduled departure. If you are forced to cancel for a reason not otherwise covered, Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage will reimburse you 75% of your prepaid, forfeited, non-refundable payments for the covered Trip arrangement(s) up to the policy limit shown on the Schedule of Benefits. Cancel for Any Reason coverage is not available to residents of NY.
Yes, Bankruptcy and/or Default of Your Travel Supplier is covered if you have enrolled within 14 days of your initial deposit/payment date. Benefits due to Bankruptcy or Default of an airline will be paid if no alternate transportation is available. Certain exclusions may apply, please see the Policy for a complete details.
The Policy provides Trip Cancellation coverage if a politically motivated terrorist attack occurs within 30 days of your departure and within 50 miles of a city listed on your itinerary you . The terrorist attack must occur on or after the effective date of your Trip Cancellation coverage.
You are only covered if you purchase the optional Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) benefit that is available on the Trip Care Complete Plus and Elite plans.
Trip Cancellation benefits will be paid in the event that a natural disaster or documented man-made disaster at the point of departure or point of destination renders your primary residence or your destination uninhabitable.
No, however, Trip Care Complete offers you three plan options with different benefits and pricing from which to choose. Please take a moment to compare the options and see which one best fits your needs.

Political or Military Situation Evacuation
Europ Assistance will use best endeavors, subject to the terms and conditions, to arrange for your evacuation where a Political or Military Situation triggering event occurs in your host country. The supplier shall arrange, at its cost, for your transportation to the nearest safe location, then to your home country.

Natural Disaster Evacuation
Europ Assistance will use best endeavors, subject to terms and conditions, to arrange for your evacuation where a Natural Disaster triggering event occurs in your host country. Europ Assistance will arrange for your evacuation from a safe departure point to the nearest safe location, then to your home country. You must contact Europ Assistance within ten (10) days from the date your host country and/or an appropriate authority issues the official disaster declaration.

You may increase your insured Trip Cost anytime prior to departure. However, if you purchased coverage within 14 days after making your initial payment or deposit for your trip, and your total Trip Cost later increases, you must purchase additional coverage within 14 days after scheduling your new trip arrangement(s). This will retain your eligibility for: (1) Cancel for Any Reason (if purchased); or (2) Pre-Existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver , if these benefits were originally included in the Option you purchased. Yes, you can upgrade from Select Basic to Plus or Elite, or from Select Plus to Elite. However, to be eligible for the early-purchase benefits you must do so within 14 days of the initial trip payment/deposit. To upgrade your coverage, please contact Travel Insurance Services in writing via mail, fax or email.

You may be eligible for a full refund if your request for your refund is within your state's Free Look Period, and you have not started your trip or filed a claim.

If your trip was cancelled, and you were issued a voucher for a future trip instead of a refund by your tour operator or travel supplier, you must transfer your travel insurance dates to your new trip dates. You can do so by calling Travel Insurance Services customer service.

Outside of the Free Look period: If the tour operator or travel supplier cancels the entire trip for all travelers, and no claim has been filed or will be filed, and the insured has elected not to change their policy trip dates, then the policy may be canceled with a pro-rated refund of premium. Policies for trips cancelled by the insured are NOT eligible for refunds, except if within the free look period.
